Differences Between Basic and Advanced Accounts in Spotlight

Spotlight offers two account types: Basic and Advanced. Here’s the difference:

Basic Accounts

Basic accounts, aka Basic (IG), are Creator or Business accounts that are connected to Spotlight via Instagram. These accounts do not require a Facebook page to be connected to them.

Once connected to Spotlight, Basic accounts can:

  • Display an Instagram feed with posts from your Professional account, whether it’s a Creator or Business account.
  • Show your account bio and profile photo in the Spotlight feed header.

Advanced Accounts

Advanced accounts, aka Advanced (FB), are Creator or Business accounts that are connected to Spotlight via Facebook. These accounts require a Facebook page to be connected to them.

Once connected to Spotlight, Advanced accounts can:

  • Display an Instagram feed with posts from your Professional account.
  • Display a feed of posts using a specific hashtag from all across Instagram.
  • Display a feed of posts in which your Instagram Professional account is tagged.
  • Show your account bio and profile photo in the Spotlight feed header.
  • Display the follower count for your Instagram Professional account.
  • Show the total number of posts on your Instagram Professional account.
  • Display the number of likes and comments for each post.
  • Display the comments on each post.

Important

Personal accounts are no longer supported due to changes in the Instagram API. Switching from a Personal account to a Professional (Creator or Business) account is free and can be done at any time. If you’re unsure how to make the switch, you can follow this step-by-step guide.

Professional accounts come with added benefits within Instagram itself, including:

  • Access to Instagram insights for your accounts.
  • The ability to add a contact button to your profile.
  • The option to display your industry on your profile.
  • The ability to advertise on Instagram.
  • The option to promote posts on Instagram, and more.
