Do I have to reconnect my Instagram account if I change my username or password?
Important
Starting December 4, 2024, Meta will phase out its Instagram Basic Display API, meaning Instagram will no longer allow personal accounts to be used in Spotlight. Learn more about this change.
Changing Your Instagram Username
Yes, whether using an Instagram Personal or Business account, it needs to be reconnected in Spotlight once the Instagram account's username is changed. Here's how to do that:
Instagram Personal Account
- From your website's dashboard, go to Instagram Feeds > Settings > Accounts.
- Find the account you need to reconnect and click on the 3 dots under Actions on the right.
- Choose the Reconnect option to reconnect that Instagram account with Spotlight, logging in to Instagram with the new username.
Instagram Business Account
- From your website's dashboard, go to Instagram Feeds > Settings > Accounts.
- Find the account you need to reconnect and click on the 3 dots under Actions on the right.
- Choose the Reconnect option to reconnect that Instagram account with Spotlight. When the popup asks you to "Continue as <your name>...", you may choose that option rather than starting over.
Changing Your Instagram Password
Instagram Personal Account
Yes, if the Instagram account in question is for an Instagram Personal
account, it needs to be reconnected in Spotlight once the Instagram account's password is changed. Here's how to do that:
- From your website's dashboard, go to Instagram Feeds > Settings > Accounts.
- Find the account you need to reconnect and click on the 3 dots under Actions on the right.
- Choose the Reconnect option to reconnect that Instagram account with Spotlight, logging in to Instagram with the new password.
Instagram Business Account
If the Instagram account in question is for an Instagram Business account, changing your Instagram account's password or your Facebook account's password does not require reconnection in Spotlight.
Reconnect Your Instagram Account with the Spotlight App
If any of the above doesn't work for you and your Instagram account won't reconnect correctly for whatever reason, you may need to first remove Spotlight from the Connected Apps and Websites section of your Instagram account. You can find the step-by-step instructions on how to do that here.
